Can YouTube's Ask button search all your saved videos?

Short answer: YouTube's help pages don't say it can. The Ask button works on the video you're watching. Ask YouTube search looks across YouTube and the web. Neither help page mentions your saved videos. YouTube Collector searches the transcripts of the videos you save.

What each one does

The Ask button. YouTube calls this Ask YouTube on the watch page. It appears on select videos. Ask about the video, or pick a suggested prompt, and an AI answers. YouTube says the answers draw on info from YouTube and the web. You need to be signed in and at least 13, or the minimum age in your country. It works on Android, iOS, computer browsers and smart TVs, in select languages and regions. The UK and the US are both listed. The help page lists no fee and doesn't mention Premium.

Ask YouTube search. This is a separate tool. You type a question in your own words, then ask follow-ups. YouTube says it draws on the web and YouTube content. It's for people in the US searching in English, on a computer, phone or TV. Apple TV is not included.

YouTube Collector keeps a library of the videos you add. Paste a YouTube link to get the transcript and a summary split into sections. Click a section to jump to that moment. Type a phrase once to search every transcript you've saved. Each match shows the video and the timestamp. Click a match and the player starts at that second.

Videos with no captions are experimental. YouTube Collector can try an AI transcript from the audio, up to 3 hours. Not every video works.

Use Ask YouTube search if you're in the US and want YouTube to find the right video for a question.

Use YouTube Collector if you need to find a point across videos you chose. A podcaster might look for every episode where a guest mentioned pricing. You might want the lecture that covered one topic. Search once, then click a match to go to that moment.

Is the Ask button on every video? No. YouTube says it appears on select videos.
